Chôm Chôm is a vibrant, Vietnamese canteen tucked away on a bustling street corner in Soho, Hong Kong. What it lacks in seating, Chom Chom makes up for in charm and personality. It was one of many brands I had the opportunity of working with while working as the in-house designer at Black Sheep Restaurants. One of my greatest pleasures in this role was art directing all the photoshoots for new menu items for special events and various promotion. I developed a close relationship with the photographers we had on retainer and worked hand in hand with them to produce images. My responsibility included setting shot lists, managing the photographers' as well as the restaurant staffs' schedules; art directing and styling the shoots in person; selecting final images and providing retouching notes. The most beneficial thing about being involved in this process was the ability to see a shoot through from conception to production of assets. For example, one of my favorite projects was a flyer we did for our Happy Hour offering. I conceived an idea for this shoot, art directed the photo shoot, designed a flyer, and photoshopped the flyer onto the final shot. It's one of my favorite pieces in my portfolio because it so beautifully captures both the essence of the restaurant as well as the promotion itself.
