This is an original drawing in charcoal, titled "Lion Man." The drawing was completed as the final project in the Drawing 100 class at Savannah College of Art and Design. This piece was featured in Beyond The Dot, a show highlighting exceptional student work in Foundation Studies at SCAD Atlanta.
The concept for the drawing were based around ideas about courage and confidence, specifically these quotes:
"Courage does not always roar, sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day that says, I will try again tomorrow."- Mary Anne Radmacher
"In quieteness and confidence you will find your strength." - Nancy Rosenstiel (my grandmother)
"You spend too much time worrying about what people think of you, a lion does not concern himself with the opinion of a sheep." - Unknown
"Confidence is not “they will like me”. Confidence is “I’ll be fine if they don’t” ." -Unknown
Each of these quotes speaks to a kind of courage and confidence that one can find within themselves when they stop worrying about other people's opinions, who they need or want to be, or what other people think they should be, and are simply content with who they are right now in this moment.
