Kelp the Sea Turtle

The Story: Kelp is Here to Help!

Kelp was once a shimmering sea turtle
Who wanted to solve quite a huge hurdle.
Humans kept polluting the deep dazzling ocean,
And it created all sorts of crazy commotion.
Fish and crustaceans would snarl and tangle
With human trash that created a wrangle.
So Kelp decided to use his big shell
To collect harmful junk to prevent potential hell.

As Kelp swam with a large swirling current,
He heard some small voice and it sounded urgent.
Kelp’s fins made large strokes and came to its aid,
And there he found a whole fish brigade.
“Help! Help!” they whined and they cried.
“Our friend is trapped in a can left open wide!”
“Don’t worry, my friends!” he said with a yelp.
“Your good friend Kelp is here to help!”

They swam swiftly to the stuck little friend,
And rescued him with Kelp’s helpful hand.
“Thank you, kind Kelp!” they said with a splash.
The sea turtle nodded and picked up the trash,
And beamed with a smile as he went on his way,
Knowing that he saved someone’s day.
From then on when a critter was in need,
Other fish would look for Kelp with great speed.

But soon, you see, Kelp’s shell grew heavy.
He sank to the sea floor right by a levy.
He tried to swim to the surface for air,
And when Kelp cried for assistance, no one was there.
There he died, unable to move.
I guess it’s a sign that we should all disprove
Of polluting and wasting because it’s not kind
To litters of critters who are undermined.
