Coats-of arms historically represent family lineage. My series is a contemporary interpretation of the heraldic symbolism linking me to my parents. The interior of each coat contains a symbolic element pertaining to the two sides of families that are combined in order to create one. Mill stones, lilacs, oak trees, and diamonds signify the family names– Marshall, Spencley, Oliver and Desjardins. 

 

The illustrations are coats for my mother (blue and green), father (red and black), and a combination of those to create my coat-of-arms (brown and cyan).
