A Capstone Final Major Project
 
" The Minorities"
; Tibet and Hani in China
 
    The aim of the project is in order to present the beauty that minorities of China, Tibet and Hani have. I have considered this project as a long term project since I finished the color project about Tibet during the last semester. First of all, I intended to apply the concept about co-existance of tradition and modernity to designs. They mix-match their traditional costumes with modern used clothes, since the minorities are mostly poor, which I learned from Chinese while interviewing them for the past project. It contributes to their atmosphere looking more unique. Second, in order to reflect the mood on design, I observed various elements such as embellishments on costumes, patterns and colour. To be specific, many circle-shaped silver embellishments were found during research. I intepreted this feature with ideas about silver vintage metal circles and embroidered patches that can be attachable as I contrived customized designs. The biggest challenge was 3D design development as I used to develop designs two-dimensionally. I usually started gament work when I decided a final design among idea sketches.
However, I could evolve myself with varying experiments three dimensionally while processing the project. When it comes to the matal, I was struggling because I did not have any experience to produce metal embellishments even though one of friends helped to develop the work. I had to learn new techniques to manage aluminium, which was not easy to adapt, but eventually I could finsih all the matal work. This final project lead me to go to different ways to approach the outcome. I believed that this 10 weeks journey helped broaden my perspectives about design development.
