This bag pattern was designed for functionality: the bag's own weight keeps its two pockets closed, and eliminates the need for locking/securing hardware. The buckles need only be adjusted for fit, allowing the outer straps to be used for lashing coats, umbrellas, or other extraneous items to the outside of the bag.
