EXODUS | Thesis Project

This project is to inform young adults about the refugee crisis that is going on today and the effects it’s having around the world.

For the name of the organization, I chose Exodus which literally means leaving the homeland. For the logo, the ‘X’ is squeezing through a sharp border. This is meant to represent the millions of people fleeing their homes to escape war, violence, and persecution.

To best display this information and reach a large audience, I decided to design and code a website– to offer factual information in a condensed, but interesting way. To showcase photos, statistics, and powerful statements to grab the viewer’s attention, I coded an infinity-scroll website. Because my target audience would most likely view the website on mobile devices, I focused on how the information responds when it is scaled down.

To draw viewers to the website I designed quotes and statistics for an Instagram account. I also created small flyers to be placed at coffeehouses, offices, and schools. To create an impact outside electronic devices, I designed and handbound a book that asks the viewer to rip through the fears to see the truth.

The 5x5 in. colorful flyers are meant to grab the viewers attention right away with the shocking photos and statistics.

This book gives the viewer a way to experience getting past fears by having to rip open the pages to see facts. It wasn't easy for people to rip the pages open. Many were afraid of messing up the book. Just like how many of us are afraid to look past our fears.

As the pages were torn open, the edges were left ridged. Not only an example of how hard it is to get past our fears; but also an example of the hardship people are going through when they are forced to leave their life, homes, loved ones, and country behind.
