I use photography as a means to reflect on life. Birth, life and death make people introspective. I make pictures that give people perspectives and think about the past, present and future. Viewers would have an immediate response on the work.

Last Meal, a body of work provokes the meaning of life. My choice of topic comes from my interest in cooking and ideas about choices. Life is full of big moments and big decisions. By talking to the interviewees, I get to know the stories behind their choices. Often the stories are not earth-shattering, but something about their families’ heartwarming and bittersweet memories. Through the process of recreating and documenting their last meal, I found myself gradually being able to play a part in their stories.

The camera is positioned directly above the dish and perfectly centered. Overhead angle gives a two dimensional composition and unique design on a flat surface. White background is used so viewers can focus on every detail in the meal. This produces a timeless look and provides a breathing space for viewers as well. Round dishes are used in every photograph in order to provide cohesion and linkage. Light pale colors in these photographs create mood and atmosphere, recall the sadness of the subject matter.
