For this particular project, we had to create two paper sculpts reacting to a poem we selected. I selected the poem "The Words" by another Flagler College student; a poem about abuse.
My process thinking was to create two puppets, colored purple to represent hidden strength that has not been tapped into yet, being dirtied by browns and blacks to represent the deterioration and rotting of the person's hope as the abuse begins to destroy the person. I created bowls to represent a vessel that is filling with darkness (the black crumpled paper) that is spilling out and over-taking the person in question. I created a mirror-like object, as the person being abused reflects on his or her life, created puppets to represent the person being controlled, the red "thread" choking and wrapping itself around the person, red thread symbolizing the hateful presence of the abuser.
