An informational and interactive magazine insert was created to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the largest organization for women in the world. The Girl Scouts of the USA is an extremely accomplished organization with a long and proud history of empowering young girls all across the country, all thanks to an incredible woman named Juliette Gordon Low. This insert into an is- sue of the American Girl Magazine aimed to capture the rich history, now over a century long, of the early beginnings and journey of the Girl Scout movement and the many accomplishments its members have made over the years. It was also meant to be an interactive tool to get girls who are not already involved in the organization interested and excited about the potential opportunities it holds. The visual style of this project was meant to stay consistent with the existing Girl Scout brand, utilizing their famous colors of Kelly Green and white, while also crafting a uniquely special feel in honor of the 100th anniversary by introducing textured gold into the design. Historical photographs showcasing the many endeavors of the Girl Scouts throughout the years were highlighted using hand drawn frames in a gold color, while other graphic elements such as bold lines and hand drawn arrows bring a more youthful and modern spirit to the design. Each page of the spread was meant to be unique while still telling a consistent story from page to page, which was especially shown by the continuation of the timeline throughout the entire piece. The interactive elements of the design included an original cookie recipe and instructions that readers are encour- aged to test out for themselves, as well as a quick game whose goal is to match up images of early badges with their original names. The last page of the spread, a large quote by the founder Juliette Gordon Low, was meant to be cut or torn out and put up as a motivational poster to continue inspiring girls as Juliette did so many years ago.
