This paper sample booklet for the DuroTone paper line of the French Paper Sample Company was meant to highlight the durability and versatility of the product, while also telling a consistent story. The concept used to illustrate this quality was “Wrenches & Lab Rats” which interestingly and visually represents the back to basics, tough, scientifically proven way that this line of paper stands up to almost any printing job. The concept was carried throughout the booklet by hand done illustrations of various scientific tools and instruments, as well as human anatomy. The journey through the book begins with an overview of a maze on the cover, with a die cut key hold inviting the viewer to enter the maze and discover more. The bold headline of “You Are Here, Now Get Lost” is both eye catching and reiterates the idea of this booklet being an exciting exploration of all this line of paper has to offer. Each spread depicts a different characteristic this paper boasts, from Complex Versatility to Consistency, and each layout features a wide variety of images and type treatments to showcase these characteristics. In order to better communicate the tactile quality of this paper, special treatment was given to several the spreads by hand stitching a line of black thread through them, which also doubles as a continuation of the path of the maze that runs throughout the booklet.
