This is a concept piece on how to make the life of designer that much easier through a partnership with Neenah Paper. Designers that work with print mediums go through a lot of paper sample books and get a lot of sample sheets sent to them. With the new 3D printers that can print objects, Neenah now makes a printer that can print out paper samples at home. Neenah would be interested in this product so that it is one more item for the consumer to purchase and they are saving money for no longer needing to send out free paper sample packets. The printer would directly correspond with their website and a smart phone app to tell the printer what kind of paper to print. Designers would be interested for the ease and convenience of not having to leave their studio, home or workplace to see what the design looks like on different paper types.
While going through the process of the concept piece, I spent a lot of time on Neenah Papers website. The current way to find and explore new paper types is long, confusing and takes longer than necessary to load. I decided that with the new printer, I also wanted to create a new, user friendly way to find paper samples. I redesigned the whole thing to act more like an online shopping experience with large swatches and clear labels. There is also an easy to navigate left side panel that allows the user to quickly redefine the search.
Before & After
There is an existing Neenah Paper Sample App that is quite lovely and easy to navigate but it ultimately had no purpose, until now. You can wirelessly sync with your 3D printer and print the samples as well as "favorite" multiple samples and it is stored into your favorites for future purposes.
