Level Design XQ Station

This is a project which I worked on with another team member (Tom Kedik) last year on level design. The brief was to create a death match multilayer map for 8 players using UDK. This was not for profit and for educational purposes only and is in no way endorsed or affiliated with Star Wars or Disney.
This level is based on the XQ2 Platform from Star Wars lore. The Platform is used as a deep space hangar for small star-fighters and essentially functions as a military space airport. Being cheap and easy to run the platforms often made their way into the hands of pirates and outlaws. The level is designed as if in the middle of an Imperial (the lawful government) assault on a pirate-run platform.
Level Design
This level has a low gravity setting, allowing the players to jump between each level of the station from each deck.

Outer Hull & Roof
This floor features sniping pickups on the roof and various items on each arm. The landing pads themselves also contain weapon pickups as referred to in the initial presentation.

The top left pad features a crashed Imperial Stormtrooper Transport, which would serve as a spawn location if played as Team Deathmatch map. In a DM map it is simply cover.

The textures for the exterior will be mostly gunmetal and steel plate panelling as if operated by a poorly run faction (outlaws).

The exterior will also show some signs of battle damage in the form of laser burns and slight hull damage where the Transport has crashed.
Command Tower
The command tower features windows which overlook the landing pad arms & the pads themselves. The room also features weapons, pickups & spawns as described in the initial presentation.

The ‘U’s refer to hatches which go up to the Roof, and the ‘D’s refer to hatches which lead down onto the catwalk of the Flight Deck.

The textures in the Command Tower are mostly utilitarian as the outlaws wouldn't have money for fancy paint jobs.

The consoles (light grey) feature glowing computer screens and the central octagonal shape is a large server tower which reaches the ceiling. This tower should have the occasional glowing computer screen on as well.

The blue rectangles are tall holographic maps which act as line of sight blockers, but not physical walls.
Flight Deck

The flight deck contains a number of starships, all of which are single man snub-fighters, preferably the Z95, which featured heavily in the X-Wing games as a pirate fighter. The room also features weapons, pickups & spawns as described in the initial presentation.

The central orange shape is a large upright fuel tank, held in place by the 3 buttress supports (which also act as a bit of cover). The ships are surrounded by blast shields, which act as further cover as thematically stop the ships from blasting the fuel tank & crates/barrels in case of an emergency launch.

The floor and blast shields should have scorch marks from previous emergency launches. The rest of the room is mostly metal panelling, with the occasional pirate/outlaw symbol (search for ‘Star Wars Black Sun’ for reference of appropriate pirate symbols). Crates & barrels should feature worn military style paint schemes and be obviously old & rusty. The deck should look well used with marks and scuffs.
Lower Deck

The lower deck is used as a storage area for munitions & fuel. The service ramps lead up to the arms of the station where the tracking dollies are situated. The spaceships would sit on the dollies (away from the fuel) and await missiles to be loaded in before they’re launched. The room also features weapons, pickups & spawns as described in the initial presentation.

The barrels and crates are all the same as the ones from the flight deck, acting as half-height cover. The missile racks will not explode when shot, thematically this can be attributed to them not being armed until loaded.

The room should be dimly lit and darkly textured as the room is simply used for storage and people would not go in there for long.
