You're one prickly pear! #drawtoscore

The inspiration behind much of my work is drawn from everyday life experiences. The artwork below represents an ongoing internal dialogue that often plays out as I walk through my street. My neighbour has a Prickly Pear Cactus Tree growing in the front lawn. This tree bears a fruit of a watermelon consistency, encased in a tough and prickly cactus skin. I have always wanted to knock on my neighbour's door to ask if I can pick some of the fruit, however I always recoil and am yet to approach her. This illustration is paradoxical; I am using the Prickly Pear to hide from sight, while the repetition of eyes on my coat reveal there is still a longing to approach my neighbour that I can't subdue.
From this story, and a photograph of a Prickly Pear as my reference, I drew an image of myself and manipulate both to my style. I then use my original mediums which are ink pen, watercolour and acrylic. Once the work has dried, I place it into photoshop to clean the image.
Below are my process photos.
