Spring 2014
Students, Faculty, Staff, Alumni and Community Members volunteered their time & talents on Saturday, April 26th, 2014 to construct an Outdoor Classroom in Honor of Dr. George Byrd, Ferrum College Professor of Life Sciences, who passed away in 2012.  The garden will be a teaching garden; several switchgrass varieties Dr. Byrd had researched were transplanted into galvanized planters.  Galvanized planters will frame the classroom space while tying into the mission of the Titmus Agriculture Center.  Future additions to the outdoor classroom include a pergola on the east side, tables/chairs and benches. Concept Design for Outdoor Classroom donated by Beechgrove Design, galvanized planter planting plans created by Ferrum College Landscape Design students in Horticulture 411.
