Don Quixote meets Sadhus
'Don Quixote meetsSadhus' is a series of illustrations about the scenarios when Don Quixote meets sadhus in different places while seeking adventures and has a conversation with each of them.
Don Quixote is a fictional character from a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, who thinks of himself as a knight. He is a self centered man who is not pleased with anybody easily except himself. He constantly wants to hear his praises about how brave, kind and selfless he is. He is crazy enough that people do not believe him and thinks that he is completely out of his mind. Sancho Panza, his loyal companion is the only person who is convinced that Don Quixote is a knight and is going to win a kingdom one day and make him the governor of an insula.
A characteristic of Quixote is that sometimes the reader himself doubts if Quixote really is insane. He is so convinced of himself being a knight and doing good deeds for people in need, that the reader starts believing him too and realizes that Quixote is just an exaggerated version of most of the people.
Taking this point forward, I started searching for people in today's world who could match up to Don Quixote's madness and eventually came across 'Sadhus' who participate in a 'Kumbh Mela', India's one of the hallowed festivals. I came across some of the sadhus who have unique and weird practices that they have been following their entire lives. Doing these kinds of unimaginable things, they have a huge number of followers who come for their blessings from faraway places.
During the conversations in these illustrations, Don Quixote's hunger for flattery gets satisfied by the sadhus as they either already know that he is coming or have heard about him. In the process though Quixote also ends up getting impressed by them, which is very rare. As both individuals are attention seekers and think of themselves very highly, they end up praising each other.
