For this assignment, the brief was to create a poster by hand using a quote that dealt with the issue of media freedom and freedom of the press in some way. I chose a quote by Sylvia Vollenhoven which deals with the issue of equality in the press and ensuring that women's voices are heard in this field. I purchased 1.25x1.5m of black felt and hand-stitched the quote into the fabric using purple and orange thread. I chose to stitch only the shadows of the word "women" to underscore the potential voicelessness of women in the media.
