For about 15 years, through the 1980's, I worked with Jim Henson's Muppets designing and illustrating close to 2,000 licensed products. The experience led me to a second career as a toy inventor, working with the companies I had worked with through the Muppets.

Jim Henson took a personal interest in my work as I started working with the Muppets right out of college around 1979. The Muppets were my graduate school and made my career. They were all great to work with and I look back fondly on my Muppet years. The licensed products below are ©Henson Associates posted with permission.
Every so often a Muppet seems to be just what is needed for an editorial cartoon. Here are some Muppet metaphors from my third career as a newspaper editorial cartoonist.

When the president of Chick-fil-A made statements opposing gay rights the Muppets pulled their licensing campaign from
Chick-fil-A. I was pleased to see them do that.
Soon after the 2008 stock market crash there were reports of how Goldman Sachs salesmen called their gullable investors "Muppets" - because they saw their customers as puppets who would do anything they wanted, such as buying worthless mortgage securities.
This is an oldie that I drew when the national conversation was about torture and water-boarding. It seems to me that kids constantly tickling poor "Tickle Me Elmo" dolls is a kind of torture. Poor Elmo.
Republicans often threatened to de-fund PBS, threatening Sesame Street. Perhaps the poor Muppets are finally safe now that they have moved to HBO.
This is how I see Fox News ...
