The wolf proud of his big shadow and the lion

Once upon a time a wolf, which was wandering along a desert land, at the
sunset it saw its shadow become taller and longer, and so it said: "Wow, I'm so
big and I do have fear of the lion? As long and tall as I am, I will surely
become the king of all animals!"
But the powerful lion came and caught the wolf-which was getting a swollen
head-and tore it to pieces.
How many troubles are caused by presumption!" Cried the wolf, changing its
mind too late.
The fox and the mask

A fox got into the house of an actor and started to rummage among the scene
clothes, passing them in review one by one.
By this way, it found a mask, artistically modeled, and, taken it in his paws,
it said: "Oh, what a magnificent head!
What a pity it has no brain!"
The fable is for those who are phisically beautiful, but of short intellect.

The goat and the donkey

A man was breeding a goat and a donkey. Envious of the donkey, because it was
usually reserved a richer amount of food,
the goat told it: "You're suffering continuous mistreatments, as you're forced
to make the grindstone turn around and to carry heavy
loads." So, the goat suggested: "Now pretend to be epileptic, and let you
slide down in a hole on the ground, so you can rest".
The donkey listened to the goat, but when it fell down the hole he broke his
bones.
So, his owner called the veterinary, asking him for help; and he said that, if
he wanted to cure the donkey, he should have made an infusion from a goat's
lung.
So, the two men sacrified the goat to heal the donkey.
The one who plots trickeries against others is the first responsible for his
own troubles.
The weasel and the hens

A weasel, having come to know that the hens of a farm were ill, disguised
itself as a doctor and, taken with it the medical instruments, it went to the
farm.
As it appeared to the farm's door, the weasel asked the hens how were them.
"Fine", was the answer, "Provided that you keep yourself away from here".
This way, the sensible men unmask the evil ones, even if they pretend to have
the best intentions.

The lion, the wolf and the fox

The old lion was lying ill inside a cavern.
All the animals went to visit their king, all but the fox; so, the wolf took
the opportunity to accuse it in front of the lion, saying that the fox didn't
hold the king in great consideration and for this reason it hadn't even come to
visit it.
In that very moment the fox came and listened to the wolf's last words. The
lion began to roar against it, but the fox asked for some time to justify
itself.
"Who, among all those who came here, has done to you a favour as big as
mine?", it said to the lion.
"I went everywhere around to ask the doctors about a cure for you, and finally
I got it!"
The king told it to explain immediately the cure for it, and the fox answered:
" Just skin a wolf alive and dress you up with its mantle still warm".
In a flash, the wolf was stretched out dead to the ground and the fox,
smiling, remarked: "It's necessary not to incite the master to hate, but to
lead him to indulgence".
The fable shows that the one who plots tricks to others, turns against himself
his own intrigues.
