Problem Solving: Mary Quant Revival

For our final project we were each randomly assigned a designer from the past to research, and to then create a "wearable and styled" look that would emulate that designer’s aesthetic if they were still designing today. My designer was Mary Quant, a true pioneer of 60's fashion in London she was the mother of Mod and the mini skirt.

For my look I wanted to create a simple silhouette with a youthful vibe, characteristic of Quant's aesthetic. I made a simple cotton top with a black wrap mini skirt, a nod to Quant's specialty.  I created several appliques in the shape of Quant's signature symbol, the four-petal flower. Materials used for the appliques vary from zippers, hot glue, acrylic paint, piping, lace, tripe, magazine tears, buttons, rhinestones etc.
