This image was a long time in the making. I first shot it in 1998 after losing my great aunt. The original medium was a 4x5 pinhole camera. I double exposed the figure. The wings in the background are actually her arms lifted up behind her head. It was a happy accident that they turned out to look like wings. The rosaary was my aunt's. It wasn't until recently that I scanned in the 4x5 film and painted on it in Photoshop. I added layers of paint and then added in grainy and paint peeling textures to create the final image.
