Collegiate Times Page Layouts
A sampling of the best--or most challenging--of my designs working for a college daily.
When I began working at the Collegiate Times, I was a college freshman with no formal design experience. My design work in high school had all been self-taught, and though I was eager I was sorely lacking in workable design skills (until this point, I had never used Illustrator in my life. These were dark days).

One year later, I was promoted to design editor. I am now in charge of not only creating the daily designs, but teach other students--some with years of design experience, graphic design or architecture degrees, etc--how to work during nightly production.

At the CT, I've had days where it is entirely up to me to create art for a front page devoid of content. And then I've had days like December 8, where in the midst of a school-shooting crisis I've designed an emergency edition of the paper and breaking-news web content to inform masses of concerned readers.

As anyone who has worked on a college daily will know, not all of my pages have been gems. The beauty of them, however, is that there will always be another day and another design pushing you to do better. The following are the page layouts I am most proud of--some because of their hard-hitting content, some because of the challenge they posed to me as a designer, and some simply because of the shear force of will it took to produce them.
