Spirit of the Sea - Silver Vial Pendant

Spirit of the Sea - Octopus Vial Pendant

Only one of the following descriptions might be correct ...

I) It is an ancient artifact, discovered in the Gobi desert under strange circumstances. There is a tale that once a mighty Djinn trapped the Spirit of the Sea in a small silver vial. Once reliefed, the spirit would flood all deserts in order to destroy the Djinn and to increase it's empire.

II) The small silver bottle was crafted by the hard working elves of Shapeways after they received diabolic instructions by an odd man, located in Bavaria, Germany.

III) A young fellow lost his beloved. She drowned in a stormy night. From now on he carries a small silver vial, filled with water from the deep, deep blue sea.

OK, it's a...
Silver Pendant, manufactured via Shapeways 3d priniting service!

The Vial was created with the 3d software "Sculptris", "Blender" and "Meshmixer". All of the programs are available for free!
I sent the final model to Shapeways.com and got them printed in Sterling Silver. It was deliverd very shiny so I blackened it with liver of sulfur.
Taking the pictures were kind of tricky this time...
I bought some bird grid and placed it before a monitor with a sky image.
With a small smoke machine I added some fog so the foreground gets a nice smooth transition to the background.
I used two photolights and some of my T-Shirts as color filter. Works pretty well!
The "bird grid" was kind of rough. I would love to use fine-grain sand but I don't know where to get it. If you live near the ocean, send me some!
;)
Thanks
Michael
