This collection is inspired by the dramatic juxtaposition of old and new when historic buildings are renovated, or new buildings are built next to old. Warm, thick textures of old brick, stone, and wood are warm and familiar, meanwhile ultramodern glass, metal, and sleek silhouettes are clean and chic. The combination of these two aesthetics brought me to design classic silhouettes with both modern and retro details and very clean lines, referencing the easy elegance of Saint Laurent Rive Gauche in the 1970s. The fabrications are also a mix of natural and textural, such as dark green stretch denim, camel cotton corduroy, and burgundy organic bamboo jersey, with modern synthetics such as nude rayon mesh, stiff black netting, and a silver quilted coat fabric. The fabrics reference the relaxed feel of the 1970’s, and also include many sheers, layered atop each other to create soft visual texture, inspired by color field paintings by Mark Rothko. The luxurious textures and subtle fall color palette would attract a very wide array of customers, while the simple construction would keep the price point at an upper contemporary level.
