Study of non places.

“If a place can be defined as relational, historical and concerned with identity, then a space which cannot be defined as relational, or historical, or concerned with identity will be a non-place.”

Starting from this definition written by Augé in his book “Non-places: Introduction to an Anthropology of Supermodernity”, I decided to built my project around a motorway, North Circular Road, starting from Staples Corner and going up to West Hendon.
The main concept is to capture those places where we lose our identity, where we can be defined just by what we are doing in that moment: drivers, passengers, customers and so on.
To develop my idea, I started to look at some photographers - and writers - who dealt with the idea of non-place in several different ways such as Gursky, Holdsworth and Faure.

I’ve always been interested in absence and presence and their differences and I’ve seen the same contrasts between the terms of place and non-place.

For this project, I've used a Pentax 67 and KodakPortra 160 as a film.
These are scans of my hand printed pictures.  [As you can see, the scanner isn't the best quality ever but I'm planning to upload the scans from the film soon].
