BOOK COVER DESIGN
THE BRIEF
The Brief was to create a book cover for Erin Morgenstern's 'The Night Circus'. The novel is based on a magical circus where not everything is as it seems, and has several important themes such as love, mystery and magic.
THE SOLUTION
I tried to incorporate all of these main themes on the books cover while trying to keep a mysterious element by having the entire design held up by strings, suggesting one of the important themes of the book. The colour scheme is inspired by the circus itself, which, in the book, is entirely black and white. I feel this adds to the mysterious, magical feel that the story portrays. The design was for a special edition version of the book, so would include a working clocks face, and be made of different materials and textures to portray the hidden layers of the circus.
