Avalanche City - Our New Life Above The Ground
Avalanche City is the brain child of kiwi musician Dave Baxter. His debut album "Our New Life Above The Ground" was released in 2011, where it achieved GOLD status and was nominated for a New Zealand Music Award as "Album Of The Year."
This has been produced as an assignment for Yoobee School of Design.
My goal was to stay true to the theme of the album, but to present an alternative to the original cover. Keywords that came to mind whilst designing were "playful," "adventurous" and "whimsical." I wanted to keep the illustrations simple and fun, with bright colors and rough textured background to give the feel of a canvas painting.
Being my first assignment in print media, I am overall happy with the final product. I can see room for improvement and expansion on my initial ideas. The potential to get rid of the plastic cover and go for a weighted paper sleeve design would fit the theme of this album very well.
