About

Kenya is one of Africa’s top ten technologically developed countries and has the continent's largest and most diverse economy. Divided up into eight provinces its largest economic sectors are agriculture, manufacturing, and services. Seventy-nine percent of the developing nation’s population of 45,010,056 works in the agricultural sector, located in Central and Western Kenya, where the land has a medium to high potential for agriculture in an otherwise arid country.

Despite of its technological placement amongst its neighbors and expectations of continued economic growth Kenya suffers from poverty, food insecurities, challenges caused by climate change, gender inequality, and political unsettlements.

Opportunities

Agriculture can lead growth in Central and Western Kenya and can be twice as effective as manufacturing in reducing poverty. By encouraging the growth of small farms, the government of Kenya could stimulate the rural economy through various initiatives and financial services that would be available to assist the rural communities.

The International Fund For Agricultural Development has stated that Africa has the potential to feed itself, and to become a major food supplier for the rest of the world.
