Mapping Graphic Design

One of my class assignments demanded visual representation of the history of graphic design.
Since the topic was so vast, I narrowed in on the time period between the two world wars, 1916-1934, an era when a lot of great art was produced.
Inspired by Massimo Vignelli’s design of the New York Subway map, along with Paul Rand’s typography layouts, I decided to create a map of the evolution of Dadaism, Constructivism, De Stijl, Bauhaus and New Typography as upcoming art movements of the time, as they influenced each other in the given time period. I chose to represent each art movement by a different coloured metro line, showcasing the stops as per the years that were of particular note to them, which is seen to coincide with some other movements too.
The map ultimately took form of a four panelled brochure that was the size of an A4 sheet.
