Pixel.8 Pavilion

Pixel.8 Pavilion

The Pixel.8 Pavilion provides a space for relaxation and social gathering, shifting diurnally from a milky white structrual lattice to a glowing field of pulsing colored pixels. As the day concludes and night begins, the pavilion becomes active, sensing the temperature and humidity of its local environment including its inhabitants and shifting the frequency and color spectrum of its light pulses. Materially, the Pavilion is comprised of 400 unique “bricks” each of which is stitched together from thin CNC cut Polypropelyne sheets and, when assembled, together achieve a tectonically efficient structural system with the capacity to modulate light and view throughout the configuration. The volume created within each “brick” is laced with weather resistant LED strips which are attached to envrionmental sensors and a microcontroller to create programmed lighting effects once the sun goes down. The Pixel.8 Pavilion, and the party that follows it, is ideally suited for a roof-top or open courtyard space.
