Webb Bland's profile

Food Styling | District Donuts

I have always had a deep interest in food photography and styling (thanks in large part to the incredible Behance community!), but I'd never had the confidence to give it a try myself. So in 2014, I approached the then-newly-founded and currently-award-winning New Orleans-based restaurant District: Donuts. Sliders. Brew., and pitched a concept to the owners; practice food styling and photography with their gorgeous fresh gourmet donuts, by shooting a 'portrait' of each of their flavors, arranged with props and ingredients that pertain to each pastry's personality. However, with over 200 varieties and more innovations being concocted every week, my original vision quickly won over the team, and our goals have since spiraled into a full ongoing project, with a much grander purpose in mind.

With an already-established collection of tableware and props from my own home, it sort of all just felt... natural. And once I really got into envisioning the look and buying ingredients and building the compositions and arranging the smallest of details, I began having more fun than I sometimes do on location with my automotive work. So that's.... worrying. :D

Below are my debut 28 efforts at food styling/photography, and the beginnings of a very exciting project down the line.
