This project won 1st Place in Target's annual design challenge to find and address a white space within their offerings. This collection designed for Target's brand Gilligan & O'Malley would fill their current white space in plus-size lingerie and loungewear. Target's many customers size 0X-3X and 36D-44F will enjoy being able to embrace their curves in this fun and flirty collection of undergarments and sleepwear.
This aesthetic is inspired by the soft colors and geometric patterns of Art Deco architecture in China, as seen in the 1930s and also in modern day. The style lines and intricate details especially in the trims refer to the geometric architecture of the Art Deco movement, in combination with the trends young women are currently seeking in their intimate apparel. These designs are feminine, trendy, and youthful, while also being comfortable and supportive for full figured women.
The primary fabrics are soft and sheer, such as polyester chiffon and nylon lace, with a polyester spandex interlock fabric stretch for supportive molded cups and smoothing bra bands, and lace trims and metallic gold stretch interlock used for subtle, feminine details. A pink and gold leaf circle print and a radial embroidery design with gold sequins are designed to echo the architecture shown in the concept board, as well as the swiss dots of the chiffon and the circular pattern lace.
The collection as a whole provides the customer with many options as far as styles, fits, and colors, which could all be mix and matched. From every day basic panties to trendy architectural bras to a flirty sheer chemise, every woman will find something to love.
