Sculpture project

I decided to work on wood,
I've done some clay or stone scultures in the past but never used wood.
I consequently chose a relativly simple subject, for this first time,
Lucio, a character I designed few months ago.
First step, made the subject with clay, 30 cm high, to allow me some ease when switch to the wood piece.
Clay is so easy to use, you can add some material when needed, no way whith wood....
Clay model is finished, even if a lot saller than the wood piece, it will be very helpfull for propotions.
Made these photos to take some precise mesurements.

The Cedar trunk
Here is the beautiful piece of cedar!
80 cm high
Giar, a sculptor-woodcutter friend gave it to me.
Giar is so cool, he lent me his chain saw and showed me how to use it.
Fist, cut the profile shape.
Then, same thing with the front view.
The chain saw work is a verry important step, it really defines what the final piece will look like, the propotions.

Begin to look alike each other...
More precise work begins.
Back in atelier, to finish the piece, for the finest work.
I wanted to obtain perfect shapes so used rasps to refine the piece.
At the end, finishing it off with sandpaper.
Just a natural final touch with beeswax.
