Tenancy Agreement.

It is here, that I will also present my work for my year Two, Semester One, Photographic Practice module. The brief for this project is “journeys”.

I was interested in portraying an environment personal to me so I chose the “journey” of student life for the Photographic Practice module for my second year of university Media Studies BA (Hons) degree. I intend for viewers of my work to take on an intimate approach by myself fearlessly putting on display my combination of personal photos in relation to my lifestyle. I wish for viewers of my work to look at these images and either relate to them or question them. Whether they portray a comfortable or messy lifestyle I intend for viewers to think of their own journey from adolescence to adulthood in respond to photographs of my own journey. My lifestyle as a student, and home environment correlate as one in these photos.
After I took these photographs I was noticing how my project was not personal enough. I knew what I intended to portray with these photos thus far, however, when taking them, I noticed that they lack a personal approach. I believe that they portray my student lifestyle, whether it is comforting, messy or social, but I wished to delve deeper. The photos I took further from this point onwards are mostly close ups. I decided to use this camera angle in order to photograph more intimate mise-en-scenes, but as well as this I intend for it to relate more to the viewers if it subtracts people in the photographs. I intend for viewers to look at the photographs I have taken and relate to something similar of experience to them, or not relate, but question the lifestyle myself and my friends have by our home proximities. I believe that getting rid of people in the photographs and taking more close up imagery proves to be successful with this idea. Nevertheless, some of these photographs still include people in it because of the demand of the photo shooting style.
With the photograph above I wanted to portray split personalities, a very broad theme that speaks about sexuality, gender, behaviour and interest, all shown through the use of two different pairs of shoes. At first glance this is a simple photograph of two pairs of shoes of mine, however, they speak a lot about my everyday interests. The converse, are my everyday wear. They are what I wear to go into university, town, out with friends etc. In contrast, the high heals show how I enjoy dressing up to going out during the night, very glamourously (linking to the previous photo of my makeup spread out on the floor). They reveal a lot about my personality, I believe.
