Story of U&I

U&I is a volunteer-driven charitable organisation based in Bangalore. The vision for U&I was inspired by a few friends’ outreach visit to the State Home for Mentally Challenged Boys and realising the huge difference that ordinary people coming together can make. Walking into this home and witnessing the conditions the boys were made to live in forced them to see the reality of the other side of the coin.

These boys were a nobody to the rest of world, tucked away between a renowned University and a hospital for the longest time, they were ignored. Over time, a handful of friends from church grew into a 50+ strong volunteer group.
U&I started off in 2011 with the primary vision of serving the underprivileged and empowering them to reach their fullest potential. U&I has 10 Learning Centers functioning across the city with over 450 teaching volunteers touching the lives of over 650 women and children every week.

Every child deserves an opportunity to be educated and reach his/her potential and our Learning Centres across the city aim at doing just that. From teaching English to slum children to helping government school students with tuitions, to coaching young people from underprivileged communities in basic computer skills, to helping rehabilitate special needs children, we are committed to creating a better tomorrow for thousands of underprivileged women and children.
