Groot was done in pencil then ink, Rocket is mostly a digital drawing. I wasn't happy with Rocket so I sketched a new one.
I was much happier with this Rocket, which was quickly drawn in a sketch book. It has much more personality than the original.
I placed the Rocket sketch into the drawing. I added the backgrounds(close-up pictures of my fine art )and started to block in the colors on the characters. I tend to like my work to be somewhat "dirty" and considered leaving the colors as is.
Now that I was happy with Rocket's face, and got the majority of the painting done, I needed to add something so that he wasn't just standing there.
Here's the final version. I punched up the color and added the gun, a vague apoximation of the gun in the film, which I hadn't seen at the time of this piece.
