Celtic Grave is a fictional band name that would be appropriate for a Celtic punk-rock group. In making up a name for the band, I visited a random Wikipedia article and was able to use either the article title or a key word from the first paragraph. I then took that word or phrase and put it through a couple of band name generators to come up with the band name and the name for the tour that the poster was advertising.

The Subtract and Color blending modes in Photoshop were important tools in establishing the style of the poster. Originally, I was going with a more cliché style for the poster. It involved a dark background with the heavily textured Celtic cross in the center with a big outer glow.

I then began experimenting with the blending modes for the background and cross layers and I really loved the inverted look that the Subtract and Color modes gave off. This new look has a lot of hard edges, and the dark shadows around the inverted cross (combined with the hand-lettered band name) really helps to get across the idea that this is a Celtic punk-rock band.
