The Death Star was an oversized spacecraft and galactic superweapon developed by the Empire that featured in both Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and Star Wars Episode V: Return of the Jedi. In Star Wars, the original Deathstar destroyed Princess Leia’s home planet of Alderaan and was the scene of the famous duel between Obi Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader.  It was later destroyed by Luke Skywalker in the Battle of Yavin.

 

The second Death Star was destroyed at the end of Return of the Jedi by the rebel attack once the deflector shield on the Forest Moon of Endor had been destroyed.

 

A Death Star is crewed by an estimated population of 1.7 military personnel and 400,000 droids.  Plus one Sith Lord.
