Sprouts Magazine Concept for Parents and Kids

Under the umbrella topic of "Education Now and in the Future", teams of 4 in a Contextual Research class at SCAD were assigned to create the concept and mock up for a magazine detailing research, insights, and helpful guides for users that might be interested in the topic.
I created the concept work and development of a character named Buzz, who is meant to keep kids engaged through out the magazine by providing activities for them to do as well as reach out to them with kid friendly language and ideas. Buzz the bee is meant to be a relatable character who likes to play, learn, and engage with the world around him.
Character development and positioning for Buzz, a kid friendly character designed to help keep kids interested through out the magazine and guide them through activities.
My contribution to the team included writing, editing, and creating visuals for several articles and spreads. These articles were meant for parents, but also include activities that can engage their children. I chose to focus my research for my articles on extracurricular activities and the rising popularity of childrens yoga.
Spread 1 - Benefits and information on engaging kids in extracurricular activities
Spread 2 - An interview with a certified childrens yoga instructor on the benefits of yoga for the whole family, especially younger generations.
Spread 3 - A family-friendly guide to completing Sun Salutation A and finding peace of mind during a busy Summer day.
Below is a printed rough prototype of an unfolding cover element, meant to engage kids and parents in a tactile activity together before flipping through the magazine. The folding element serves as a pocket to hold a small toy, token, or simple picture of Buzz welcoming viewers to the Sprouts Experience.
