This group project was to create an original, scripted, 5 minute pilot; to be filmed within a 3 hour studio session. The 3 hours had to include set construction, hair and make-up, wardrobe, set decoration and filming.
The idea created by the group was, 'If New Zealand had been cut off from the rest of the world in the 1980's, what would have happened to it, 30 year later?'.
Working from this outline, the group fleshed the story out further, to understand how this would be reflected in the 5 minute pilot. A rough story was created and roles were assigned. My roles were mainly production designer, storyboard supervisor and editor.

Initial concept artwork for the book the pilot and potential series would revolve around; as the central part of the story this was the first conceptualisation that had to be decided as it set the theme and tone of the pilot and its design.
The book had to be written in code, in an original language. To create the characters I looked at ancient cuneiform, linear type A script, runic script, Sanskrit, Greek and older Arabic scripts as well as a few original creations.
A scene was developed early on to show how the main character had inherited the book. The only item visible in the shot was to be the book. So the set for the discovery was to be completely black, curtain, table and box which the book would be inside of.
