This is my most recent Typography II Project. The objective was to take a 1,000 word paper we had written previously for the class, and use the narrative/general theme of the writing as a starting point to design a typographic calendar, of anywhere from 3-12 months. My writing was a loosely compiled mixture of different writing and quotes from author Hunter S. Thompson. The main message I attempting to convey, was that of a "fast life" with no rules, where taking risks or chances is not a choice, but a necessity. Thus, Dr. Gonzo's famous "Buy the ticket. Take the ride." quote became the basis for my ideas. The end result is a calendar designed to imitate the little paper "admit one" tickets you'd see at a carnival or similar place, usually used to take part in attractions like roller coasters or other "thrill rides". On the backs of the tickets, are a repeating serious of quick sayings or quotes that encompass that idea of living fast, and taking risks. I printed this project on Rives BFK, a high quality fine art paper, because I wanted to get as close to the look and feel of an actual ticket stub as I possibly could.
