A self initiated project to design an alternative promotional poster for the film Lost In Translation, a personal favourite of mine.
The film follows the story of two strangers who develop an unlikely friendship after a chance meeting in a Tokyo hotel bar. Amidst the confusion and loneliness of life in an unfamiliar city, the pair find comfort in each others company, but soon their new found friendship forces them to consider deeper uncertainties about their own personal lives.
The film's title is a metaphor for the difficulties the characters face both in understanding the strange new culture around them and the personal predicament they find themselves in.
My design references these themes of incoherence and confussion litterally, with the partialy obscured words of the films title hidden in amongst a chaotic collage of vintage Japanese typography, in two alternative colour ways that are intended to evoke the dazzling neon lights of Tokyo.
