Fibonacci Bench—A Reclaimed Bench Design

Furniture
30 LifeStories — irememberParks is
a national initiative part of The Singapore Memory Project, conceived to share the valuable memories of our garden city. We were invited to design a piece of furniture using fallen logs salvaged from local parks and gardens.
The Fibonacci Bench is inspired by the mysterious number sequence often found in nature—the Fibonacci sequence, one that still fascinates the brightest of mathematicians. We've always wanted to work with Fibonacci numbers, with secret hopes that the geeks out there might appreciate our homage to nature and its mysterious formations.
The bench is made from a trunk of a Tembusu tree sliced into 8 parts according to measurements translated from the number sequence, resulting in the finished piece looking absolutely manmade with its precise cuts and sharp angles—an interesting contrast from a concept rooted in nature.

The Fibonacci Bench was one of the 30 pieces of reclaimed furniture to be designed, produced and compiled into '30 LifeStories' — a book of 30 artists and designers' reclaimed memories with nature.
