Final Design

The brief for this project was to produce a 'Special Edition' book cover design for one of a range of selected titles, I chose Of Mice and Men as I had read the title, and understood the themes and characters. My final designs ultimate intention was to target and engage not only longtime fans of these best selling stories, but to engage and create a new set of fans. My "Special Edition" was solely on the character of Curley's Wife, a character I found to be rather pitiful in her position. She has no one to relate to on the Ranch and constantly uses her sexuality and body to garner attention of the hands. She is confined and bored of the Ranch and never gets to leave, she is true and speaks her mind. Several times she speaks of how she was hopeful for the future, speaking about how she could have been a movie star.

The centerpiece of the book cover is of course Curley's Wife, I decided to portray her as an image of temptation and sexuality how she is in the books in a very explicit manner. Her form is made up of the hands of the Hands that work on the ranch, George and Lennie's faces are worked into either side of her torso as they both have very different sides of viewing her. Curley's face is on her behind, they never share a scene together until she of course is is killed, the times when Curley mentions her he is always asking where she is and is always looking for her. I chose to portray her in the position she is when she is dead as she sexualises herself to get attention when she's alive and doesn't recieve that until she has been killed.
