EXPO 2015 Milano Info Pavilion / AC-CA Competition

The "Tree of Life Pavilion" is an information pavilion designed for the AC-CA EXPO Milano 2015 design competition. Every year at the expo almost all participating nations are trying to surpass each other in architectonical way. They are trying to bring the crowd to their own pavilion.  The Information Pavilion is the starting point for visitors, for tours and a resting area for all visitors who became exhausted from waiting for hours and hours in a line, or get lost in the huge expo area.
That´s why the information pavilion is located in the junction at the two grand axes. Usually this pavilion is located at the entrance of the expo area but with it´s informative and recovery function we decided to locate it into the heart of the expo area. Another important design requirement for this location is that it's the best area on the whole expo to orient. Visitors should be attracted and emitted as well.
So the design of the tree of life is a metaphor for the interconnectedness of all life on our planet. We set out to this analogy of how this "tree" generates, distributes life and feed all the services present in the pavilion as well as all users. The Tree of Life serves as a shelter, hosting and providing safety, in each case the visitors are unaware that the pavillion serves as a place of calm, looking to discover information to the whole territory of Expo.
The facade presents itself as a chameleonic element, like a tree has capability to change before the weather conditions. Its rotating panels has the particularity to ally nature with technology following the purpose of the Expo. During the daily period facade becomes completely covered with vegetation and inside lined LEDS that can be transmiting live images of the exhibition. At night time these panels with LED rotate 180º and the building sits well with another image showing more diversity.
The load bearing structure of the pavilion is made of steel. Both materials can be recycled after their appearance at the EXPO 2015 MILANO.
