A connection between nature and technology, the Weatherhub is a kinetic sculpture that allows the user to engage with their surrounding natural environment. Some of our target audience often have a slight different sleep cycle from what we consider as “normal,” and they often sleep through most of the day and unaware of the weather during that time. The Weatherhub senses and collects these information of sunlight, humidity, and wind during the day time. During the night time, the plates on the sculpture will spin by using energy collected in the day. Depending on the amount or volume of data received, the weather plates will at the speed accordingly.
The Weatherhub does not use numberings or labels to represent its collective data. Instead, it represents these in a organic form by using art and the spinning rate to present its data to the user. The user is not given a solid, definitive answer. The user can translate the representation given to them to compare and contrast with one another to find their own answer. The organic form of this sculpture act as an art piece, as well as a beautiful nature piece that can encourage the technology surrounded individual to take a step back, and enjoy what nature has to offer.
