iZOMBIE POSTER

Self-directed illustration of Olivia “Liv” Moore from the hit CW series, iZombie. After a party-turned-nightmare leaves her craving brains, Liv becomes a morgue examiner to get her fix. Absorbing the memories from the brains she devours, she compares the victims' outlooks with her once by-the-numbers, perfectionist life.

The painting alludes to Liv's personal growth during the series by showing her eating her own brain: thus, analyzing her past.

I intentionally chose a comic cover image ratio and aesthetic to highlight the show's origins as a graphic novel.

PICKING MY BRAINS (aka PROCESS)

Before I begin my illustrations, I create word maps and sketches to define directions for my pieces. I will then photograph models to achieve the right pose and expression. I chose myself for this painting since I bear a distant resemblance to the actress who plays Liv Moore. I had so much fun playing around with the tone of the piece!

Enjoy some of the antics I went through while capturing the perfect reference shots for my piece (and yes, that Freddie Krueger mask is my second-in-command):

The photograph chosen as reference, and the final comp I created before I began my painting.
Painting process.
Thanks for looking!
