Highland Public Library Website

About the Process

I re-designed and re-structured the Highland Public Library website and user interface based on user interviews about their original site and stakeholder feedback. The library was in need of an extensive content restructuring, front and back end user interface adjustments and site re-design in order to insure the website is ADA compliant and easier to use for the large range of patrons that access their website. I worked closely with one of the librarians on staff to do extensive user interviews and testing.

Before I began designing my wireframes I created several different sketch scenarios for the homepage and an internal page. I also looked at different navigation options for the site. I saw several themes developing in the structure of the content in my sketches. In my wireframes, you can see that I created three different search and column structures. After I solidified the wireframes I began building out high fidelity comps. At first, I settled on image #1 and image #2. However, I wasn’t happy with the structure of the website or the navigation. This triggered me to go back and take everything I liked from each design and mold them together into one cohesive structure.
