Process-Groundcloth-"Magic Flute"-Glimmerglass 2015

These are process pictures for the ground cloth for "Magic Flute" at Glimmergalss Festival 2015. We started with a biege base. We then scattered rubber mulch, wheat, shredded newspaper, ropes, twigs, and plastic leaves and plants over the entire surface. Next, we sprayed paint over the layer of objects so that when they were removed, what would remain would be a negative/outline in paint of where the object had been. We repeated with process multiple times rearranging the objects and using different colorsto add layers, depth and texture. We then went back in with brushes and cut rollers to create larger shapes, lines and marks. The end result was a groundcloth that looked like a forest floor with pine needles, wood chips, grass, leaves, vines, twigs and branches. The groundcloth was highly textural yet still ccompletely two dimensional. Fellow Painters:  Stephanie Nimick, Christi Kneisel, Sasha Glinski, Sage Neighbors, and Melissa Davies. Set Designer: Troy Hourie.
