Imagination Factory

The One Show / 2015 Young Ones Competition : Kids and Technology
Introduction

In today’s digital society children are exposed to technology daily, and it’s a great learning tool that makes their lives more magical and academically inclined. It increases cultural connections, expands global communication throughout the many countries and broadens interests of the world around them, but it has its downfalls. Too much technology may be the cause of addictive personalities and the change in personal development and educational values.

Task

Our objective was to choose if either technology was good or corruptive to the child and their development.

Actions

Initially we chose that technology was great for a child’s imagination and growth but we did acknowledge and understand the opposition. The group felt that taking away the use of technical tools would virtually impair their progression into this increasingly tech savvy world. So, throughout our project we focused on the positive effects of children using technology as a tool to strengthen their learning skills, share their imaginations with one another and bridge the gap between their imagination and reality.
To achieve this goal we created the “Imagination Factory,” and when finalized it was described as a traveling organization where children could come and take their imagination to new heights, participating in technical classes learning programming, circuitry, design building with 3d printers and much more. It would also become an online learning tool for those who could not come to the physical event, where the child could use their technical devices to play instructional games, share fun educational tutorials, photos and ideas. Thus, cultivating their imagination with the world.

Participation

My participation in this project comes in many forms. In the beginning during the brainstorming and ideation process, I contributed ideas and I also had participation in the beginning stages of the script. In the end we decided to go with our group members (Yihan Kang’s) idea and we had a copywriter create the final rap. However, I did animate the scenes in the second portion of the video. Originally we also had some glitches in our music from our sound producer so I stepped in to help edit the music using garage band.
This video was created by a group of four individuals including myself for an Advertising Competition.
